Photographs taken in the City of Nottingham on Wednesday 1st February 2012.

This is one of the many buildings in Nottingham and surrounding districts built by my favourite architect, Watson Fothergill. He was born Fothergill Watson, on 12th July 1841 in Mansfield. He later changed his name to Watson Fothergill (in 1892) to continue his mother's family name.

This building was built for Nottingham & Notts. Bank as their Head Office in Thurland Street, Nottingham. Subsequently it was absorbed into the National Westminster Bank. It is now a tasteful clothing store "All Saints"

Built between 1877-1882, the bank's head offices were designed to give it's customers a feeling of security and permanence.

The building is dominated by a central tower and has many wonderful carvings of animals, beasts and foliage both inside and outside. High up externally there are three panels in Portland stone, depicting the principal industries of the region - mining, textiles & agriculture. The names of the towns where the bank had other branches are carved in stone along its frontage.

On the first floor of the bank was a large apartment for the manager and his family. He had his own entrance from the street.
